O3's Ethical Events |
 |

|
After the huge success of O3 Gallery’s ‘Ethical Fashion Fest’ in March which formed part of Oxford Fashion Week 2011, the gallery made a commitment to continue its support and encouragement of sustainably produced fashion and design. The O3 Ethical Project, a not-for-profit project launched by O3 Gallery, is setting its sights on a larger-scale fashion show in 2012 that is able to offer a wider display of UK-based ethical designers, as well as other related events intended to provoke, educate and inspire.
THANK YOU to everyone who voted O3 in the Future Friendly awards! O3 Fashion Fest came second in the ‘South’ region, which is a great result and we are very grateful for all the support. We were also delighted to see that we gained the Guardian’s vote!
Currently the gallery sells ‘up-cycled’ design items by Tamsin Leighton-Boyce, who makes exquisite sculptural jewellery and Sweetly Wrapped, who create novel wallets, purses and card holders from discarded sweet wrappers and comic books. Click HERE for more info.
We are also organising regular events which, in keeping with the essence of ethical design, are intended to celebrate the traditional hand-crafted skills that are sadly diminishing through the mechanism of production. Click HERE to read about our most recent events.

Exposition at O3 Gallery |
 |
 |
The O3 Gallery is delighted to announce a new collaboration
with Oxford University's Exposition magazine this winter.
Issue 5 of Exposition is out today, and you can pick
one up from the O3 Gallery, Blackwells Bookshop on Broad
Street, or find one inside The Oxford Student newspaper.
Exposition is the leading popular graduate research
magazine in the UK, featuring cutting edge arts and humanities
research from the University of Oxford and beyond. The
magazine runs in-depth features spanning politics, society
and the arts and covering a huge array of disciplines:
from Art History to Anthropology to International Relations.
What unites every article in Exposition is the expertise
that supports it.
The majority of Expo's articles are commissioned on
a one-off basis and are written by post graduate students
of the University of Oxford, with occasional articles
from further afield. This is what guarantees the quality
of the writing: in Exposition you will never find unsubstantiated
diatribe, nor career journalists; just fresh, expert
opinion from authors inspired by a love of their subject
and a desire to share their passion. Supported by first
class artwork of the likes of Stella Vine, Quentin Blake
and Edward Burtynksy, Exposition is your window into
the original research that is going on at world-leading
academic institutions today.
It is now possible to subscribe to Exposition, paying
only postage and packaging. Go to www.expositionmagazine.com for more details or email subscriptions@expositionmagazine.com.

Castle Art Competition - Winners |
 |
 |
On Saturday 2nd May artists, amateur & professional,
were invited to draw/paint/photograph the Oxford Castle
Complex in our annual competition. The O3 Gallery was
pleased to receive over 40 entries of varying media and
we hope the event will continue to grow next year.
The winning image was a photograph by the Mannish Trousers
collaborative, created by a pin hole camera in the form
of a suitcase and developed on site in a temporary dark
room. Mound captures an iconic view of Oxford’s heritage,
fusing old and new. The O3 Gallery was particularly impressed
with the way the group approached the competition - creating
a whole event around their work.
We appreciate the effort made by all the artists who
participated and would like to make a special mention
to three highly commended artists – Jo Emmons, Jane King
and Robert Eyles.
The entries be shown in an exhibition in September and
will form part of Oxford Open Doors, 12-13 Sept 2009.

Oxford Castle Mural Programme |
Behind the O3 Gallery in the Oxford Castle Garden is a
wall space which we would like to fill with colourful murals
or installation pieces. We are accepting proposals from
Oxfordshire artists to use this space. We envisage that
painted works would stay in place for 3months before we
give the space to another artist to use. The duration of
installations/projections/photographic works can be considered
on each individual proposal.
We ask that the subject of the works be 'family-friendly'
as this is a public space. Content is up to you but anything
connected with 'Oxfordshire' or site-specific will be of
particular interest to us.
We are offering this space free of charge for emerging
and mid-career artists to display their talents to a larger
audience. You would need to provide all your own materials
(ie. weather-resistent paint/projectors etc). We can not
provide any payment in return. We are, however, happy to
publicise your work through the O3 gallery website and
distribute your publicity materials onsite.
Please email the gallery on info@o3gallery.co.uk or call
01865 246131 for more information.

Oxford Castle Outdoor Installations |
The
O3 Gallery is also happy to discuss ideas for other outdoor
installations and exhibitions on the Oxford Castle site.
Artists will again need to provide their own materials
and install the work themselves but we are happy to publicise
your work and assist with technical aspects such as invigilating
works.
