Pat Johnson
Pat Johnson has a long involvement with enamelling, the technique of melting coloured glass powders on to a metal surface.
Her early work focused on enamel as an art form, as any kind of image and style can be created in enamel, and she had many exhibitions of her panels, both wall mounted and free standing. Through these exhibitions, an opportunity arose for her to move into large scale enamelling on steel. For many years she produced murals for cruiseliners and architectural site in the UK.
When a source of copper bowls became available, Pat Johnson switched back to enamelling on copper, because she feels that the unique qualities of enamel - transparency, textures and particularly beautiful colours - were best expressed on copper, especially on smooth, spun bowl forms.
