Textile artist Amanda Hislop will present a series
of artwork at the O3 Gallery, Oxford Castle from Saturday
18th September until Sunday 17th October. In this collection,
Amanda responds to the timeless themes of land, sea,
sky and trees. The images created do not reveal the
landscape directly but are a response to what it feels
like to be within the landscape; an impressionistic
sense of the place, a moment of time, a response to
light and colour.
Amanda combines drawn and painted marks with the tactile
qualities of thread, paper and fabric. She captures
the essence of the landscape, using drawing to record
fleeting fragments observed and absorbed. Consideration
of linear qualities and the interaction of vertical
and horizontal elements in composition, texture and
subdued subtle colour reflect Amanda’s training in
woven textiles and painting. Intuitive brush marks,
stitch, layered paper and fabric evolve and expand
into original art work evoking atmosphere and quiet
stillness.
Amanda lives and works in Oxfordshire. She is a member
of the Oxfordshire Craft Guild, Prism Textile Exhibiting
Group, Oxford Embroiderers Guild and Oxford Textile
Workshop. |
